About Catena Zapata
The story of Catena is the history of Argentine wine. Founded in 1902, Bodega Catena Zapata is recognized for its pioneering role in having resurfaced the Malbec variety and having discovered the extreme height terroirs at the foot of the Andes. The Adrianna vineyard located at a height of almost 1,500 meters above sea level, has been called the Grand Cru of South America. Awards and Decanter Distinctions Man of the Year, Wine Spectator Distinguished Service Award, Der Feinschmaker Award, Wine and Spirits and Wine Enthusiast Winery Awards. We have dedicated our life, our passion and our spirit to transform a desetic height oasis into one of the most beautiful and unique viticultural areas of the world. This is the story of how we have assembled the history of the family and our historical vineyards with the most modern wine techniques, with the aim of elaborating great wines, expressive of our terroir. It is a story that begins in the nineteenth century in Italy and that continues to this day in the Calcáreos soils of Mendoza, with unexpected trips to the sunny Napa Valley in California and the precious vineyards of Bordeaux. Learning from the past, and discovering and studying the secrets of nature in view to the future, we have the pride of having turned our beloved Terroir Mendoza into the source of the wines that bear our name.
